Again, Excellence El Carmen seems to strike a perfect balance of romance an activity. As an adult exclusive resort the activities are designed for adults, like pool parties with live entertainment, beach bali beds for two, floating mats to drift through the many lazy river pools, multiple swim-up bars, a disco that thumps until 2am, plus balconies, Jacuzzis, tables for two when desired, and an enormous picturesque beach for couples time.
The beach at Excellence El Carmen is everything you expect from a Punta Cana beach - long, gorgeous and relatively calm waters to frolic in. Drink service is a bit hit-and-miss unless you stay in Excellence Club, then you will have impeccable service in the Exclusive Excellence Club beach areas. If the pool area is more your speed you will love them - all 23 of them. Long winding pools along the beach and around restaurants have swim-up bars, DJ's and activity directors, plus plenty of available lounge chairs and even palapas for shade.

Excellence El Carmen offers plenty of daytime activities around the pool and beach areas - volleyball, dance and cooking lessons, aerobics in and out of the water, kayaks, windsurfing, snorkel gear, and more. The nighttime entertainment is very good and popular. Multiple lounges provide for socializing, chilling under the stars, or dancing til the morning hours.
You can get your workout in at the 4,000 square foot fitness center, as I did. The Miile Spa is exceptional and includes indoor and oceanfront treatment areas, plus a complete hydrotherapy circuit. Surprisingly there are several quality shops for resort wear and any items you forgot to bring.
